The store name originates from the Greek word "Kafeneo", which means coffee house of café social bar. These coffee houses, were evident in every traditional Greek village (horio). Almost always located at the centre of the village, they became a focal point of village life.

Village folk gravitated there for various reasons, breakfast, a coffee break, to read the paper, have lunch or supper, drinks after work or maybe just to have a chat to catch-up on the village news and gossip.
The environment was social and relaxed, where locals and theirs guest were always made to feel welcome. Each village "Kafeneo" was tailored to the needs of its community.

As the new generation in the village moved to the bigger city centres they took the "Kafeneo" lifestyle and ethos with them as it was central to their being and such we saw the birth of the modern social café and coffee houses in the Mediterranean.
