The Summerstrand branch is a buzzing eatery with a convenient location which is exceptionally beautiful too. The excellent food and service has attracted loyal patronage over the years, from everyday locals to some of South Africa’s most well-known figures, including sportsmen and comediennes.
The Coachman is situated on Beach Road, Summerstrand, one of Port Elizabeth’s most vibrant central suburbs. It is always full, giving the place an infectious buzz, and if you visit, you’ll see why. The décor is distinct, with blue lighting above the bar and around the main restaurant working to complement the down lighters. Together they create the vision of a starry night sky. That is in the main eating area, but the ambience is similar in the relaxed bar-lounge. The wide terrace speaks for itself though with a spectacular, unobstructed ocean view – perfect for lunch or evening sundowners.
The menu is pleasing as it has a little bit of everything. You can choose between seafood dishes and pastas, charcoal grills, poultry and Coachman’s specialties. Options like creamy seafood penne, surf ‘n turf and T bone steak are hard to resist. There are of course salad options, soups and starters too, but whatever you do, make sure you get a sauce – the item Coachman is famous for. Choose between Roquefort sauce, peri-peri sauce, garlic or lemon butter and more. The cherry on top is that the service is friendly, efficient and personal.
