Alessandro Mosupi Khojane is the owner and creator of popular Bryanston, Johannesburg restaurant - Gemelli Cucina Bar - affectionately known to its patrons as Gemelli. Born in Bloemfontein, Alessandro was raised between the Free State, Italy and Lesotho. Khojane and his five older siblings grew up in Rome where their late father was a diplomat, before relocating to Lesotho in his early teens.

During his family’s stay in Rome he attended the American Overseas School of Rome (AOSR) where he learnt to speak both English & Italian fluently. Being a part of this large family as well having a diplomat for a dad, meant that they were always hosting and entertaining guests. In Italy specifically, entertaining your guests has always revolved around food. This is where his love of food and hospitality was born, as he would constantly lend his parents and sisters a helping hand in the kitchen and entertaining their guests.

It’s his love for Italian cuisine and way of life that led Alessandro to open his own contemporary Italian-inspired restaurant. After a few disappointments, and some harsh lessons along the way, he finally found the ideal space that would allow him to bring his long-standing vision to life. Eventually with a financial backing, Alessandro was able to realize his vision of creating an Italian style restaurant that embodies family as one of its cornerstones.

Today, Gemelli is cementing its place as one of the finest contemporary Italian family restaurants that serves creative and inspired modern dishes to be enjoyed by the whole family. While the restaurant is modern & trendy, it is designed to feel like a home away from home, where you never leave the table hungry. The Gemelli menu is seasonal, ensuring that they keep the menu fresh, inspired and creative in line with the availability of seasonal produce.
