La Perla Restaurant was established in 1959 and is located on the Sea Point beach front. Its 70’s fish tank design and outstanding views have made it an unmissable Cape Town landmark. La Perla has become famous over the years as a first port of call for celebrities visiting Cape Town. Over the past four decades many of the world’s most famous celebrities and polititians have graced the busy, elegant dining areas and the classic wood-carved chairs. From Marlene Dietrich to Sting, from B.J.Vorster to Thabo Mbeki. The restaurant has a healthy local following and gives visitors the opportunity to interact with an exciting cross-section of Cape Town society.
The menu is Italian with an emphasis on seafood. We offer a number of home-made pastas and pride ourselves on our salads and vegetables that are produced on our own farm in Bainskloof, Wellington. Most of our lamb and venison is also reared free range on our partner farm in Namibia. The extensive wine list is compiled by La Perla’s sister restaurant, the Wijnhuis, in Stellenbosch.
The La Perla bar and pool deck are recent additions and several other renovations and landscaping additions were completed in time for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
The restaurant is decorated with art procured by the Stellenbosch Modern and Contemporary Art Gallery (SMAC). Guests are surrounded by mammoth statues by Herman von Nazareth, classic Eduardo Villa bronzes and bold pieces by Barend De Wet.
Avante Garde Italian works as well as modern South African works by the likes of Cecil Skotnes, Johann Louw, Wayne Barker and Anton Karstel form part of an ever changing menu of carefully curated art displays.
