Mariella’s is the onsite restaurant of the Capaia Wine Estate, which overlooks the beautiful rolling hills of the Swartland, just outside of Philadelphia in the West Coast region of the Western Cape.

The restaurant was opened in 2013 and is headed up by Head Chef, Brendan du Preez. The menu is best described as ‘fusion’, with speciality dishes like oriental basted chicken and avocado salad, velvety duck liver parfait and crispy pork belly in Dijon mustard and red wine sauce. There is also a decadent dessert menu, with a decidedly traditional French slant.
Mariella’s menu is perfectly accompanied by the Capaia wine offering and all meals can be paired with the Capaia Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon or Capaia ONE.

Mariella’s is housed in a beautiful Victorian house which has been updated inside and out, giving it an elegant old world charm, with a modern twist. The kitchen has been kitted out with state of the art equipment. When the house was restored, the Baroness von Essen decided to name the restaurant after her daughter, Mariella.

Capaia is part of the new Philadelphia wine-growing region, near Durbanville, and constitutes a “wine ward” of its own. In 2005, Capaia was declared an estate (in accordance with the Château principle). Capaia’s entire terrain comprises 140 hectares (approximately 350 acres), and extends upwards across the north-east flank of the Olifantskop. It is located about 30 km from Cape Town and 10 km from the Atlantic.
On the grounds of a former fruit farm Capaia was created in 1997 by Ingrid Baroness von Essen.

The heart of Capaia is the winery, which has been built into the slope at an altitude of 200 metres. It was erected and equipped in line with the specifications stated by Tibor Gál, as well as with the requirements of state-of-the-art wine-making.

Guests can take in the amazing scenery while enjoying their meal outside on the deck, and there is a lawn and jungle gym area for kids.
