This popular Winelands destination has developed a devoted following since 2009 for its fresh, seasonal and easy, contemporary cuisine prepared by Executive Chef Nadia Louw Smith.
“Guests are invited to come and enjoy a languid afternoon on our wraparound balcony, where you become one with nature with our prized vineyards right there in front of you. We have all the right ingredients including award-winning wines, a diverse, world-inspired menu and priceless views, to get your groove back for the week that lies ahead,” shares Nadia who describes her style as fuss-free outer-city dining.
The interior of the restaurant is stylish yet without any airs and guests can enjoy a wine tasting at the comfort of their own table prior to their lunch. The restaurant also features a cosy wine lounge, the perfect spot to unwind with a bottle of Clos Malverne’s flagship Cape Blends or classic whites. If you like what you taste, Clos Malverne can deliver the wines straight to your doorstop via their online wine sales facility.
Nadia, who describes her own cuisine as ‘world food with an earthy sophistication, cooked from the heart and presented with perfection’ eschews the elaborate and creates sumptuous yet unpretentious food, simple in structure yet complex in flavour, texture and colour. She harvests most of her fresh greens from her own organic vegetable and herb garden on the wine estate.
“You won’t find deconstructed dishes, molecular gastronomy, or bite size plates of art on my menu, rather expect a fusion of full flavoured, classic contemporary creations from across the world. My dishes seem to appeal to all different nationalities and palates because they are so diverse,” explains Nadia.
Dishes on her extensive menu include a fusion of tastes from across the globe which makes it difficult to stick to just one course only. Signature starters on her ‘intercontinental food journey’ include an exotic chicken, asparagus and citrus salad spruced up with a pistachio dressing while the tempura prawns served with a homemade chilli sauce remains a firm favourite.
Meat enthusiasts will enjoy the grilled fillet which comes with a selection of sauces or indulge in a slow-cooked traditional oxtail served with heavenly almond mash potatoes. Nadia’s personal favourite is the orange and star-aniseed marinated duck breast with a five spice while vegetarians are also spoilt for choice such as the king of mushroom risotto and her asparagus, gorgonzola and mushroom tart.
The wickedly-good dessert line-up includes a dark chocolate fondant or a vanilla pod crème brûlée festooned with raspberry compote. With wine playing such an indelible part in Clos Malverne’s daily existence, all the dishes on the menu come with a matching estate wine suggestion.
Need a venue for your special birthday party or to brainstorm your next business venture away from the lackluster boardroom? The Restaurant @ Clos Malverne is a stylish extension of the Pritchard Family’s hospitality, welcoming intimate private affairs at the restaurant or in the adjacent, fully equipped ‘meeting room’.
With its stunning setting and awe-inspiring views of the picturesque valley and rolling vineyards, the restaurant is also the perfect host for your wedding reception on your big day.
